Concretization

Keeps the quantity exactly and changes its clothing, so a number you can only say becomes a thing you can picture.

Your bank app tells you that you spent 1,460 on food delivery last year. You read it, you agree that it is a lot, and nothing happens. The number is correct and it is inert. You have no picture of 1,460. You have never held it, counted it out, or watched it go past you.

Concretization keeps the quantity and changes what it is wearing. Same total, different clothes: 52 orders, one in every week of the year. Nothing was rounded and nothing was dramatized. The arithmetic is the whole of the move, and it has to be visible, because a swapped unit that hides its divisor is not a picture, it is a claim you are asking the reader to take on trust. This is a treatment, not a shape. Some family already holds the content, a distribution or a comparison or a total, and concretization is what you do to that shape so a reader can hold it.

Five sub-modes cover most of the work. Swap the unit for one the reader has handled. Rescale to per day, per week, or per person, so the size lands inside a range they have felt. Draw the count itself instead of writing it down. Set the amount beside a thing whose size they already know. Or drop a rate entirely and show one worked instance end to end.

It is weak wherever the picture is not shared. A comparison to something the reader has never stood next to adds a second unknown rather than removing the first. It also flattens variation: 52 orders sounds like one a week, and the real pattern may be 30 in one month and two in another. If the unevenness is the finding, concretizing the total will bury it. And it can be aimed. Per day is not more honest than per year, it is only smaller, so choosing the scale that flatters you is an argument wearing a picture.
