Cessation (Knowing When to Stop)

The underappreciated skill of knowing when to stop pursuing a goal, project, or strategy. While persistence is celebrated, continuing past the point of diminishing returns wastes resources that could be deployed elsewhere. The difficulty: sunk cost bias makes stopping feel like losing, and identity attachment to projects makes stopping feel like failure. The discipline is regularly re-evaluating whether the remaining expected value justifies continued investment, independent of past investment.
