The practice of identifying the single constraint that limits the throughput of an entire system—from Eliyahu Goldratt's Theory of Constraints. The key insight: improving any step that isn't the bottleneck produces zero improvement in system output. This concentrates attention and resources on the one point of maximum leverage.
