Thresholds in a system where gradual changes in inputs produce sudden, qualitative changes in outputs—phase transitions, tipping points, and critical thresholds. Ice doesn't gradually become water; it's solid until 0°C, then suddenly liquid. Recognizing break points transforms strategic thinking: below the threshold, incremental effort produces no visible result; at the threshold, a tiny additional push produces dramatic change. This explains why persistence sometimes suddenly pays off.
