Creative Tension (Gap Between Vision and Current Reality)

Peter Senge's concept that genuine motivation for change arises from accurately perceiving the gap between your vision (what you want) and current reality (what exists now). This tension, like a stretched rubber band, naturally generates energy toward resolution. The key: people resolve creative tension in two ways—moving reality toward the vision (mastery) or lowering the vision toward reality (compromise). Only the first produces real growth.
