Shared Vision

Peter Senge's learning discipline where a group develops a genuine, shared picture of the future they want to create—not compliance with a leader's vision but authentic collective aspiration. Shared vision provides the focus and energy for organizational learning. The key distinction: a vision imposed from above generates compliance at best and resistance at worst. A truly shared vision, built through dialogue and personal connection, generates commitment.

When to use it

When dealing with complex, interconnected problems; when interventions keep failing; when small changes produce disproportionate effects; when predicting system behavior.
