Servant Leadership

Robert Greenleaf's philosophy that the primary role of a leader is to serve those they lead—removing obstacles, providing resources, developing people, and creating conditions for others to succeed. Inverts the traditional pyramid: instead of the organization serving the leader, the leader serves the organization. Particularly effective for knowledge work where autonomy, mastery, and purpose drive performance.

When to use it

When managing knowledge workers. When team engagement is low despite clear direction. When leadership style is creating dependency rather than capability. When scaling an organization beyond founder-driven management.

How it can help

Reframes leadership from authority-based to service-based. Produces higher engagement, retention, and performance in knowledge-work environments. Helps leaders shift from 'directing work' to 'enabling work'—a much higher-leverage posture.
