Sexual Communication Model

Research consistently identifies sexual communication as the strongest predictor of sexual satisfaction—stronger than sexual frequency, technique, or compatibility. Yet sexual communication is among the most difficult forms of interpersonal communication because it involves vulnerability, shame, potential rejection, and cultural taboos. The sexual communication model identifies key components: disclosure (sharing desires, preferences, and boundaries), responsiveness (responding to partner's disclosures with acceptance and interest), nonverbal communication (guiding, physical cues, sounds during sex), and meta-communication (talking about how you talk about sex).

When to use it

When sexual dissatisfaction persists despite physical compatibility. When desires go unexpressed due to shame or fear of judgment. When establishing sexual communication norms in a new relationship. When sexual patterns have become rigid and need renegotiation.
