The sexual wellness lifecycle recognizes that sexuality is not static but evolves through predictable phases across the lifespan, each with distinct challenges and opportunities: adolescent sexual development (identity formation, first experiences, boundary learning), young adult exploration (partner selection, sexual repertoire development, relationship experimentation), coupled sexuality (navigating desire in commitment, parenthood impacts, intimacy evolution), midlife sexuality (hormonal changes, body image renegotiation, potential for deepened intimacy, identity reassessment), and later-life sexuality (medical considerations, loss of partners, continued need for intimacy and touch, cultural invisibility of elder sexuality).
