Integral Spirituality (Wilber)

Ken Wilber's integral spirituality attempts to map the relationships between developmental stages, states of consciousness, cultural contexts, and spiritual traditions into a comprehensive framework. The AQAL (All Quadrants, All Levels) model organizes reality into four quadrants: interior-individual (subjective experience), exterior-individual (objective behavior/brain states), interior-collective (cultural values and meanings), and exterior-collective (social systems and structures). Spirituality is then understood as developing through stages (Fowler-like faith development) while accessing states (waking, dreaming, meditative, mystical) within cultural contexts. Wilber's key insight is that you can have a peak mystical state at any developmental stage—but the interpretation of that state depends on your developmental level.
