Adaptation
Biological adaptation involves inherited features shaped by selection in particular environments across generations. It differs from individual learning, physiological adjustment, and deliberate organizational redesign. Variation, differential success, and inheritance help explain evolutionary adaptation, but not every biological change is adaptive and no process guarantees survival.

Keeping them separate prevents the attractive phrase adapt or die from substituting for an explanation of what can change, how quickly, and with what consequences.
For deliberate problem solving, borrow a limited pattern: create alternatives, compare them against the real purpose, and retain useful changes provisionally. The comparison must reward what matters. A process that selects the most popular answer may become better at attracting approval while becoming less accurate. Adaptation to one environment can also reduce usefulness elsewhere, so retain the conditions under which a change worked.

When the environment is changing faster than the organization is responding; when past success formulas are producing declining results; when designing organizations for resilience in unpredictable environments; when evaluating whether an individual, team, or company has the adaptive capacity to survive disruption.

For a clearly marked analogy, create alternatives, evaluate them against the real objective, and retain useful changes with their context. Examine whether the feedback rewards the intended outcome and whether the change creates costs elsewhere.
