Tianxia (All Under Heaven) Worldview

Tianxia ('all under heaven') is the Chinese civilizational worldview of universal inclusion rather than nation-state exclusion. Unlike the Westphalian system of sovereign states with hard borders, tianxia models graduated inclusion — the more you participate in civilized norms, the more central you become. Zhao Tingyang's modern version argues tianxia provides a framework for global governance: institutions treating humanity as a single political unit. The traditional system's weakness was sinocentrism; modern versions attempt universalism without cultural chauvinism.
