Pratityasamutpada (Dependent Co-Arising)

Pratityasamutpada is the Buddha's core philosophical insight: nothing exists independently; everything arises in dependence on conditions. A business exists only through the intersection of customers, employees, suppliers, regulators, and culture. Nagarjuna extended this: if everything depends on everything else, nothing has inherent fixed essence — meaning everything is open to transformation. The principle is systems thinking with philosophical depth.

When to use it

When root cause analysis keeps pointing to single factors but the problem persists. When you need to understand a phenomenon as an interdependent system. When seeking leverage points — changing key conditions transforms everything. When essentialist thinking blocks creative problem-solving.

How it can help

When analyzing any phenomenon, map the conditions on which it depends rather than treating it as self-contained.
