Extinction
Extinction is the loss of all living members of a taxon. Global extinction differs from disappearance in one location, and establishing it requires evidence adequate to rule out remaining individuals. Causes can include environmental change, direct pressures, interactions, and chance events; extinction is not simply failure to adapt.
Biological extinction means a lineage or taxon no longer has living members; local disappearance and global extinction are different claims. Establishing absence requires appropriate evidence, because failing to observe a species is not the same as showing that none remains. Extinction can have interacting causes and need not be explained as a failure to adapt.
The bounded practical analogy concerns irreversible loss. A service may close while its knowledge, data, or useful function survives elsewhere; an unreadable archive may become effectively lost without any company disappearing. Specify what could be lost, whether it can be recovered, and what preservation or transition would require. Do not borrow a biological extinction rate as a forecast for careers or businesses.
