Trust concerns willingness to accept vulnerability in relation to another person or organization under uncertainty. It is usefully made specific: trust whom, to do what, in which circumstances? Someone may be dependable in keeping an appointment while lacking the expertise needed for a technical judgment.

Consider the evidence behind the expectation and the consequences if it is mistaken. Competence, intentions, and consistency can matter in different ways. Clear agreements and proportionate checks can support a relationship rather than signal hostility. Trust can grow, narrow, or be withdrawn as experience changes; neither indiscriminate confidence nor constant suspicion is a universal ideal.
