Colonel Blotto models simultaneous allocation of limited resources across several contests. In a simple version, the player assigning more to a contest wins it, and the total payoff aggregates those wins. An allocation is evaluated against an opponent’s allocation, so the same plan can perform well against one rival strategy and poorly against another.
An application begins by checking whether the real situation resembles those rules. Effort may have diminishing returns, contests may interact, and quality may matter more than quantity. Mixed strategies, unequal budgets, and different contest values produce different results. The framework encourages explicit comparison of allocations; it does not prove that a weaker player should always concentrate or a stronger player should always spread evenly.
