Blotto extensions ask how allocation incentives change when contest values, budgets, timing, or information change. These features belong in the rules before an allocation is evaluated. Moving after seeing an opponent’s commitment creates a different decision from choosing simultaneously under uncertainty.

A larger number of contests is not automatically good for a weaker player: the values, scoring rule, costs of participating, and resource constraints also matter. A practical comparison varies one assumption at a time and records which conclusion changes. Adding a new competitive dimension in a business may create demand or additional costs, neither of which is captured by simply adding another formal battlefield.

When to use it

When a simple allocation model omits a competitive feature that could materially change feasible responses or payoffs.
