Disney Creativity Technique

Dilts's facilitation model uses Dreamer, Realist, and Critic perspectives to generate possibilities, plan implementation, and examine weaknesses.

The Disney creativity technique is Robert Dilts's modeled sequence of Dreamer, Realist, and Critic perspectives. It separates generating a possibility, describing how it could be implemented, and examining weaknesses. It should be presented as a facilitation heuristic inspired by Disney, not a verified reconstruction of every aspect of his process.

The roles can be temporary modes used by the same person or group, not permanent personality assignments. Criticism becomes useful when it identifies a specific design constraint that returns to planning or invention. Separate rooms are optional, and moving between perspectives is allowed when a consequential fact requires immediate attention.

When to use it

When a group repeatedly dismisses possibilities before developing them or generates ideas without feasibility review.

How it can help

Separate the purposes of idea generation, implementation planning, and critique when their unstructured mixture is unproductive.
