Jason Roberts's Luck Surface Area is a heuristic linking doing useful or interesting work with telling relevant people about it. His Doing × Telling expression illustrates how work and discoverability may interact; it is not a measured law of luck or a guarantee that greater exposure produces better outcomes.

The practical mechanism is discoverability: useful work can create capabilities or artifacts, and relevant communication can let someone connect those assets with an opportunity. Doing and telling need to meet at a specific, understandable contribution. Broadcasting without substance and private work nobody can discover create different limitations.

Roberts's multiplication is a metaphor, not an equation that predicts fortunate events. Choose forms of sharing that suit your resources and boundaries, and evaluate the quality of resulting connections rather than raw exposure. Access, timing, structural advantages, and chance still matter; an unsuccessful effort does not imply that someone failed to make enough luck.
