High Agency

High agency is a practical label for actively seeking ways to influence a situation: clarify the obstacle, find resources, test alternatives, and take appropriate initiative. Popular accounts emphasize resourcefulness and action, but the term is not a single validated personality measure or a guarantee that persistence overcomes every constraint.

Effective initiative includes asking for help, coordinating, respecting others' decisions, and stopping when a route is unsuitable. Real limits can include authority, consent, capacity, and resources as well as physical possibility. The useful question is what feasible action is available now, not whether a person deserves a high- or low-agency identity.
