Humanness Principle

A practical approach to human–AI collaboration that preserves meaningful human purpose, context, relationships, accountability, and necessary capability.

The Humanness Principle is a practical proposal for dividing work between people and AI around meaningful human contribution. Its strongest version asks who defines the purpose, supplies lived context, accepts responsibility, and maintains the relationships affected by the work. It does not require declaring creativity, empathy-like communication, or dexterity permanently exclusive to humans.

Evaluate the actual task and system rather than forecasting a guaranteed premium for a fixed list of skills. Human oversight is useful only when people have sufficient information, expertise, authority, and time to intervene. A good division of labor can also preserve the person's ability to perform important parts independently instead of quietly replacing the opportunity to learn.

When deciding which parts of a human–AI workflow require personal judgment, accountable ownership, or independent human practice.
