Twaddling is an informal label for activity that occupies time without serving its intended purpose enough to justify the cost. It may include repeated cosmetic changes, unnecessary administration, or research that never reaches the decision it was meant to support. The same activities can also be useful in another context.

Evaluate the connection to purpose rather than judging an activity by appearance. Maintenance, recovery, play, exploration, and relationship care may have value without immediate output. Ask what changes if the activity is reduced, and use a bounded pause or simpler version when consequences are reversible. Do not turn every moment into a productivity audit.

When visible busyness repeatedly substitutes for a specific unresolved decision, useful output, or necessary action.
