Most value is created after version one

A product-management maxim encouraging teams to learn from actual use and improve after an initial release. Post-launch observation can reveal valuable opportunities, but no general rule establishes that most value must be created after version one or that continued investment is always justified.

Use this maxim to plan ownership after delivery. Real use can reveal missing context, edge cases, and maintenance needs that early work did not expose. Reserve enough attention to inspect those observations and respond, instead of treating launch as the moment the team stops learning about the result.

The title does not establish that a majority of value always arrives later. Some first versions are already sufficient; others reveal that further work is not worthwhile. Compare a proposed improvement with maintaining the useful parts or ending the effort. Post-launch learning earns investment when it identifies an important, tractable opportunity.
