OKRs (Objectives and Key Results)

Objectives and Key Results connect an intended change with observable results over a defined period. Organizations use different implementations, including committed and aspirational targets. Transparency, alignment, and stretch are design choices rather than guaranteed effects, and goals need not cascade mechanically from the top.

An objective states a worthwhile change in direction or condition; key results specify what would count as progress within a defined period. Writing the task list separately helps reveal whether planned activity could occur without achieving the objective. A launch, meeting, or document can be necessary work while remaining incomplete evidence of its intended effect.

Make the commitment level explicit. A firm delivery promise and an aspirational stretch target should not be interpreted the same way, and dependencies require agreement rather than automatic cascading. Review both the measured result and whether the objective still matters, allowing targets to be revised openly when circumstances invalidate the plan.
