Simultaneous Invention (Multiple Discovery)

The historical pattern where the same invention or discovery is made independently by multiple people at roughly the same time: calculus (Newton and Leibniz), evolution (Darwin and Wallace), telephone (Bell and Gray, same day), oxygen (Scheele, Priestley, Lavoisier). Multiple discovery isn't coincidence—it reveals that inventions are less about individual genius and more about when the necessary preconditions (prior knowledge, available technology, cultural readiness) converge. The 'adjacent possible' (Kauffman/Johnson) creates a landscape where certain discoveries become inevitable once prerequisites are in place.
