Time Value Of Shipping
A product-management heuristic: delivering a useful result earlier can create additional time for benefit and feedback. Compare that opportunity with the value of further preparation and the consequences of releasing now. Earlier is not automatically better.
Releasing a useful result earlier can start a period of service and observation that waiting would forgo. The relevant comparison is the benefit available now plus the value of actionable feedback, weighed against release costs and the benefit of further preparation. Feedback has value only when the release reaches appropriate users, reveals a meaningful uncertainty, and leaves room to respond.
Apply the idea to a bounded promise. A small working report can be useful before a comprehensive dashboard exists; an inaccurate report may impose costs that outweigh earlier availability. Specify the minimum dependable result and compare a limited release with the concrete work proposed during delay. Earlier release is a decision option, not proof of first-mover advantage or a financial theorem.
