Rearrange Before Resolve
Change the layout and availability of things before demanding more motivation from yourself or others.
Your physical therapist prescribed resistance-band exercises twice a day for your aching shoulder. The bands live in a drawer upstairs. You work downstairs. After two weeks your compliance rate is roughly 20 percent, and you have started a familiar internal speech about needing to take your health more seriously.
Before demanding more motivation from yourself, change the layout. That is the whole move: when the environment repeatedly makes the desired action inconvenient or the failure path easy, rearrange proximity, availability, or social arrangement first, and only then ask willpower to cover what remains. The cue is a pattern, the same good intention failing in the same physical spot. Run it in two steps: identify where the intended action should actually happen (beside your desk, during the natural break between calls) and move the materials there (bands hanging on the chair, visible, zero setup). Then watch the numbers for a week or two. When it works, the targeted failure declines without any surge of resolve; the exercises happen because reaching for the bands became easier than skipping them. Two boundaries: do not rearrange in ways that dump the burden onto a less powerful person in the household, and abandon a rearrangement that shows no effect rather than stacking more clutter on top of it.
