Strip Method
Separate the activity you planned from the real-world change it was supposed to create, and demote the activity to one candidate method.
For two years your goal has been "meditate every day." Some months you manage it, most you don't, and each lapse feels like failure. But meditating was never the point. The point was responding to your kids with presence instead of snapping, and feeling less hijacked by your own reactivity. Somewhere along the way, the technique got promoted to the throne the outcome was supposed to sit on.
Strip Method separates a proposed activity from the real-world result it was meant to create. The cue that you need it: your goal is a method, an app, a routine, a purchase, anything you would do rather than a change you would see. Run it in three steps. First, ask the move question: if this method worked perfectly, what would be different in lived reality? Second, write that difference down as the actual destination, in your case "greater presence and less reactivity under stress." Third, demote the original activity to one candidate way of getting there, now competing with alternatives like sleep or therapy. What changes: missing a session stops meaning failure, and better methods become visible. Don't discard the method entirely; it stays on the list, it just stops being the goal.
