A destination defined by repeatedly enacting a valued practice, where the value lives in the doing, not a finish line.

Family dinner keeps losing to logistics: practices, late meetings, everyone eating in shifts around the kitchen island. You could set a completion goal, but complete what, exactly? The dinner has no endpoint. The value is in the doing, every time you do it, and it accrues nothing if framed as a project to finish.

Practice or participation is the destination form for exactly this class of goods: a destination defined by repeatedly enacting a valued practice, where the value lives in participation itself rather than at a finish line. Use it for activities that are intrinsically valuable, identity-forming, or relationship-forming, and maintained by regular enactment. The spec asks you to specify five things: the practice and the quality that matters (a weekly meal where devices are away and each person gets unhurried voice, no perfect emotional outcome required); a cadence and a minimum viable version; a safety or quality floor; explicit permission for seasonal variation; and a periodic check that the practice still serves its purpose. What changes: the practice gets defended on the calendar and survives busy seasons in reduced form. The trap: letting streaks, attendance, or volume replace the quality of participation, and treating one missed dinner as identity failure.
