The cue is any evaluation where you know which option you're "supposed" to prefer. Steps: have someone else brew both coffees identically and label the cups A and B, randomize which you taste first across several mornings, rank them each time without knowing which is which, and only then reveal the labels. When it works, the answer becomes about the cup, and either the expensive bag earns its price in your actual mouth or you save $15 a bag without loss. The same structure works for judging resumes, writing drafts, or vendor proposals. Don't use it when the identity is legitimately part of what you're evaluating, like a gift where the story matters, or when the options can't be presented comparably.
