Biased inference or belief update

Your predictions or thresholds quietly shifted after you saw the result, which corrupts the update.

On Monday you told yourself: if I average under seven hours of sleep this week, the 5am workouts go. The average came in at six hours and 24 minutes, and you're now explaining to the mirror why the threshold "wasn't realistic to begin with." The experiment ran. You failed it. And instead of updating the belief, you edited the rule.

This diagnosis names the corruption: predictions, thresholds, or interpretations that quietly shift after the result is known make every test unfalsifiable, because no outcome can ever count against you. The cue is catching yourself renegotiating a standard at the exact moment it fires. The repair: recover what you committed to before looking, which is why thresholds should be written down and timestamped in advance; compare the result to the original line, not the revised one; then either make the update the original rule prescribed (drop the 5am workouts) or renegotiate the rule explicitly, on the record, before the next result arrives. What changes is that your experiments start changing your behavior instead of quietly changing your standards. Genuinely new information can justify revising a threshold; the test is whether you'd have revised it the same way after a passing result.
