The operation: name the reference class (paid self-paced online courses), find the distribution (completion rates commonly land under 15 percent, with most drop-off in the first weeks), then relocate your case inside it: reaching module four may put you ahead of most enrollees, not behind. Finally, re-ask the real question, which was never "am I defective?" but "do I want to finish, and what would it take?" What changes is that judgment gets calibrated to what's normal instead of to an imagined standard. Base rates mislead when your case differs from the reference class in a way that clearly matters, so check the match first.
