Replicate, route, stop, or reopen
After the result, deliberately choose the next step: act, probe again, replicate, wait, or stop with a named trigger to reopen.
Your month of morning pages is over, the journaling experiment you hoped would clarify what you want from the next decade. The verdict is mildly positive: some real insights, some mornings of dutiful mush. And now comes the moment most experiments die, the drift, where you neither continue nor quit nor decide, and the whole question just fades.
Replicate, route, stop, or reopen is the move of deliberately choosing the next step after a result instead of letting it choose itself. The cue is a finished probe with its outcome in hand. The operation: pick explicitly from the menu. Act on what you learned. Run one more targeted probe on what's still unclear. Replicate, meaning repeat the same trial to see if the effect holds. Wait for better conditions. Or stop, and if you stop, name the trigger that would reopen the question, such as "revisit if the restlessness returns for two straight weeks." For the journaling, that might be: keep a lighter three-day-a-week version and reopen the career question in January. What changes is that inquiries end on purpose, with a tripwire, instead of by forgetting. Skip the deliberation when the result already forces one obvious action.
