Friction Flip
The recurring action you want is awkward to start, while another is effortless. Change the steps, delay, or distance on the relevant pathway and watch what happens across turns.
Trace the path. Add or remove friction. Watch the next turn.
Identify a trigger-to-action link in a supported helpful or harmful dynamic. Add friction to weaken an unwanted pathway or remove friction from a wanted one while preserving essential function. Check substitution, access, and actual recurrence; changing an environment is not automatically evidence of a loop or improvement.
Try this when…
The thing I want requires five setup steps.
The recurring action happens before I reconsider it.
Our process makes the useful response unnecessarily difficult.
If I block this route, will the behavior simply move elsewhere?
What you can use it for
Practice access
Remove repeated setup barriers when they interrupt a useful learning cycle.
Information interruptions
Add a deliberate step between a cue and a disruptive response.
Shared returns
Make useful outputs easier to return to the next person or process.
