Goalpost Drift

What once counted as acceptable has quietly changed. Retrieve the earlier standard, compare it with today’s operating rule, and distinguish an endorsed revision from unchosen normalization.

Original standard. Current standard. Who chose the change?

Freeze the earlier standard using its actual wording when available, then state what is accepted now. Check whether a real decision authorized the difference and whether lowering the line reduces pressure for correction. Restore or revise only through the appropriate owner; a consciously changed goal is not drift.
