Change the inflow

Alter the amount or quality of what keeps entering a state or process.

By 9pm you are anxious and cannot say why. Then you audit a normal day: three news podcasts on the commute, a breaking-news alert habit, two doomscrolls at lunch. Alarm has been entering your head at a rate no evening walk can drain. The tank fills faster than it empties.

Change the inflow means altering the amount or quality of what keeps entering a state or process, in this case the stream feeding your anxiety level. The cue: a stock that stays high no matter how well you drain it, which suggests the faucet, not the drain, is the lever. Steps: name the accumulating state (background alarm); list its inflows honestly, with rough daily doses; then cut volume or upgrade quality at the largest source, like swapping two news podcasts for music and killing alerts while keeping one deliberate news window. What changes is the level itself: within days the tank sits lower without any extra coping effort. Don't reach for inflow when the real problem is a blocked outflow, like never processing worry at all; and don't cut inflows that carry things you need, such as information your job genuinely requires.
