REPARTITION
Regroup your cases into new categories until membership in a group actually changes what you predict or do.
Your budget app sorts spending into Food, Shopping, and Other, and every month the numbers look the same while your savings quietly shrink. The categories aren't lying, but they aren't helping either: "Food" lumps together the $9 lunch you regret and the groceries you'd never cut. Cases that behave completely differently are wearing the same label.
REPARTITION means regrouping your cases until membership in a group actually changes what you predict or do. The cue: one category contains things that behave differently, or two separate categories behave identically. Try several regroupings: split by mechanism (impulse buys versus planned purchases), merge by function, regroup by how each responds when you intervene, and pull the exceptions into their own pile. Then keep the partition where the groups differ on a decision, meaning knowing which group a purchase falls into tells you how to treat it. You'll know it worked when the new buckets point to different actions: cap this group, automate that one, ignore the third. Skip this move when your regrouping just renames the same buckets, or when it creates tiny arbitrary groups of two or three cases that can't support any real conclusion.
