Ban-the-Map
When the same conversation keeps producing the same answers, temporarily take one familiar way of looking at it off the table.
Set one choice aside. Make three alternatives. Bring the original back and compare.
A “map” is your way of representing a situation: what you focus on, how the pieces connect, whose view you take, and how you show it. This recipe gives “try thinking differently” a concrete starting point.
Does any of this sound familiar?
“We’ve talked about this three times. We always end up with the same suggestions.”
“I keep rewriting the explanation, but people still don’t get it.”
“Every idea looks like a slightly different version of what we already do.”
“I can explain why I’m right. So can they. We’re still stuck.”
“I’ve made a better list, a stricter plan, another dashboard. Nothing useful changes.”
These are invitations to consider the recipe. The useful clue is that you keep reusing the same way of seeing the problem. The same situations can also call for better evidence, a different action, or another recipe.
