When “beginner or advanced” or “ready or not ready” does not fit the cases in front of you, place them along a meaningful scale and inspect the boundary.

Name the buckets → choose a scale → locate the in-between cases.

Categories simplify decisions, but some differences are gradual or vary across more than one dimension. Replace a rough either-or description with one or two clearly defined scales. Keep any real categorical rules intact, and use the richer picture to decide where a boundary actually helps.
