Table Before Prose

You keep rereading several paragraphs to compare the same few details. Pull the entities into rows and their shared attributes into columns, then keep short prose for the exceptions that the grid cannot faithfully carry.

Entities into rows. Shared fields into columns. Exceptions beside the grid.

A table can reveal the repeated structure hidden inside prose. Start with the comparison or lookup you want to make, extract entities and shared fields from the existing material, and preserve units, uncertainty and source status. The result may make the same answer easier to find or expose a useful question without requiring a different decision.

Try this when…

Each paragraph repeats the same information in a different order.

I cannot compare these without reading everything again.

The options sound different because their descriptions emphasize different fields.

I want a quick overview without losing the unusual details.

What you can use it for

Comparing alternatives

Align common attributes so differences and missing information become easier to inspect.

Synthesizing references

Organize recurring fields across sources while preserving disagreement and limits.

Coordinating plans

Show who, what, when or where in a grid when prose repeatedly carries those same fields.
