Renovate or move: your household has debated it all spring. The renovation camp imagines the finished kitchen; the moving camp imagines the better school district. Both cases are built entirely on imagination, and the debate has calcified into positions rather than progress, with each side just restating its forecast louder.

Best Test redirects that energy: find the cheapest real-world observation where your leading options would predict different results, and go make it. The cue is a decision stuck because the disagreement is really a factual uncertainty wearing an opinion costume. Run it in three steps: name the uncertainty that actually separates the options (here, whether a renovation is affordable and whether available houses beat your current one), design the cheapest observation that discriminates (one contractor walkthrough with a real quote, plus two Saturday open houses in the target district), and agree in advance what each result would push you toward. What visibly changes is that within two weekends the debate has data: a $180K quote or a disappointing open house does more than another month of arguing. Do not run a test when the observation costs more than the decision is worth, or when you already possess the decisive evidence and are testing to postpone committing.
