Instead of choosing among today's options, build a skill, resource, relationship, or runway that makes better future options reachable.

Both job offers in front of you are mediocre: one pays slightly more for work you have already outgrown, the other promises growth on a team with visible churn. You have compared them for two weeks, and the real problem is not the comparison. It is that your current skills and network only surface offers like these.

Option-creating investment is the framework's most forward-looking option form: instead of choosing among today's candidates, build a skill, resource, relationship, permission, runway, or information source that makes better future options reachable. The cue is a choice set that feels thin no matter how carefully you rank it. Run it in three steps: diagnose which missing asset gates the better options (a credential, a portfolio of public work, relationships in the target industry, or simply six months of savings that let you say no), design the investment with a horizon (take the tolerable job while spending five hours a week building the asset), and set a date to re-enter the market once the asset exists. What visibly changes is the question shifts from "which of these" to "what would make this menu obsolete," which is often the first hopeful thought in weeks. Skip this form when the decision cannot wait or the current menu is already good; investing in future options can become a permanent excuse never to pick one.
