Machine the Mechanical
You are spending careful human attention on sorting, matching or arithmetic a tool could perform consistently. Give the stable operation to a suitable tool, expose its rules and exceptions, and keep interpretation with a responsible person.
Expose inputs. State rules. Tool the repeat. Check fresh cases.
Use a machine for work whose inputs, transformation and output can be made explicit: calculation, sorting, reconciliation or formatting. Test it on examples that did not shape the rules before adopting it. Keep novel cases and consequential interpretation visible to a human, and count checking and maintenance as part of the work.
Try this when…
I keep matching these rows by hand.
The rule is clear, but the repetition takes forever.
I trust the calculation only when I redo it myself.
The tool is fast until a strange case appears.
What you can use it for
Reconciliation
Match lists or totals using stable identifiers and visible mismatch reports.
Formatting
Apply repeatable naming, layout or conversion rules to prepared material.
Scheduling calculations
Let a tool calculate dates or rotations while people retain the activity and its purpose.
