Precommit in the Calm Time
You know a pressured moment will make a familiar decision harder. Choose a voluntary boundary, its trigger, an escape clause and a review time beforehand, so the arrangement can support you without trapping you.
Choose the boundary. Name the trigger. Keep an exit. Review.
Precommitment lets an agreed rule or arrangement carry a decision through a predictable moment of pressure or reduced follow-through. Decide it while you can consider the tradeoffs clearly. Include an emergency exception and a legitimate way to reconsider. If adherence causes harm or the context changes, stop and revise the arrangement.
Try this when…
I always agree to extra work when the deadline gets close.
I make the same impulsive choice and regret it later.
The rule sounded useful until circumstances changed.
I want a boundary I chose before the pressure arrived.
What you can use it for
Project pressure
Agree on scope-change and approval boundaries before a deadline becomes urgent.
Attention commitments
Choose a limited focus arrangement with necessary access preserved.
Shared activities
