PARALLELIZE / ENSEMBLE

Get genuinely independent answers before anyone sees anyone else's, then adjudicate.

The surgeon says operate. She is confident, credentialed, and probably right. But it is your spine, the operation is irreversible, and you notice that every additional question you ask her produces more detail from the same viewpoint, not a different viewpoint. What you need is not more of her opinion. You need an opinion formed without hers in the room.

Parallelize or ensemble means getting genuinely independent answers before anyone sees anyone else's, then adjudicating between them. The cue is a consequential, uncertain judgment currently resting on one perspective. The operation has three steps and one non-negotiable: give a second specialist the same records and question without revealing the first recommendation, let each answer land fully formed, then compare where they agree, where they diverge, and why, deciding yourself or with your primary doctor. The independence is the whole mechanism; a second opinion contaminated by the first is just an echo with a diploma. When it works, agreement gives you earned confidence and disagreement gives you the exact question to investigate. The spec's sharpest warning is fake independence: five symptom checkers built on similar models produce correlated errors dressed as consensus, and it flatly reserves this move for stakes that justify the cost of duplicate work.
