Carry

Can you hold the task goal and at least one thing you must protect in mind at the same time?

Your contractor just sent an invoice with 2,200 dollars of charges you never approved. Drafting your reply, you notice something: each version either caves completely or torches the relationship with someone who is mid-project on your house. You keep losing one goal while holding the other.

Carry is the checkpoint for exactly this: can you hold the task goal and at least one thing you must protect in your head at the same time? The probe is fast. State the goal out loud, "dispute the unapproved charges," then state the safeguard, "keep this project on track," and check whether both stay present while you write a sentence. If yes, proceed; you don't need any exercise. If one keeps evaporating, that's your diagnosis: don't push through, because a reply written while the safeguard is offline is the one you'll regret. Instead, lower the load, most simply by writing the goal and safeguard on a sticky note in view, then retest by drafting again. When Carry returns, your sentences start honoring both at once. Skip the probe when the stakes are trivial or you're plainly holding everything fine, since checking then is just ritual.
